The Ka Mamalahoe Foundation is a 501c (3) non-profit corporation founded to record and share our traditional Hawaiian lessons of health, healing and wellness, combining this knowledge with modern science in order to help each other live fuller lives. Through a grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the generous donations of several private and corporate donors, Ka Mamalahoe Foundation has started a program to provide training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to every paddler, coach, and official in Hawaii at no cost to the students. This program has grown out of a recognized need within our community-too many of our friends and family members experience sudden heart attacks and collapse. Nearly forty years of evidence shows that the best chance of survival for these people comes when those around them are able to provide these simple, yet vital, intervention until the arrival of Emergency Medical Services. Hawaii has some of the best educated lifeguards, fire fighters, and paramedics in the United States, but without the help of community bystanders, they are hampered by time. The few minutes it takes to arrive may be too long without your help. The training takes approximately four hours and will be held anywhere a group of paddlers can gather. All we require is a television (the larger the better) and a space that can accommodate the group when spread out. The halau at Ke'ehi Lagoon is our home and you are welcome to join us there, or we can bring the class to you. Ka Mamalahoe will work with all clubs fro all associations on every island to coordinate classes convenient to your schedules. We normally require a minimum of ten students with a maximum of twenty. Special arrangements may be possible for larger groups. Feel free to bring mixed groups from throughout the paddling ohana, this is for everyone. Please contact Scotty Thompson by email , kamamalahoe@gmail.com or phone, 224-2149, to set up a time for your group. Mahalo for participating in this vital program. |
